When: Tuesday, November 20th, 5:30-7 pm (5:30 Vigil, 6 pm Service)
Where: Unitarian Society of Northampton and Florence, enter Church, 220 Main St, Northampton
What: The Transgender Day of Remembrance is an international event to honor the lives of transgender people who have been murdered due to hate crimes. We will also recognize transgender and non-binary individuals who suffer or have committed suicide. In this trying year when protections for transgender and non-binary people are under attack, it is important to gather in solidarity against violence and hate.
We will also recognize the loss of local community member Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien who was the first U.S. transgender victim of violence this year. Northampton’s Mayor David Narkewicz will present a proclamation on behalf of the City of Northampton, Deja Nicole Greenlaw and Lacy Joy Whitefeather will provide music, Lorelei Erisis will speak, and Reverend Yohah Ralph will officiate. Local resources for transgender, non-binary individuals, and victims of violence will be available at the event.
